Jiangsu Province-based Chinese steel producer Nanjing Iron and Steel United Co., Ltd has announced that in 2009 it produced 1.77 million mt of plates, including 1.01 million mt of shipbuilding plates.

Affected by the global financial crisis, Nanjing Steel has seen a decrease in its shipbuilding plate output in 2009. Nevertheless, the company has concentrated on developing high-end shipbuilding plates, closely tracking the market situation and consumer demand. Since 2009 Nanjing Steel's plate rolling plant has been actively providing all kinds of services, including shot blasting and coating, for Nantong Jibao Shipyard, Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Holding and others.

Nanjing Steel is the only company in China that can produce 6 mm x 3,150 mm shipbuilding plates.
