Namık Ekinci slams final decision in US rebar import case

Commenting on the final dumping and countervailing margins announced by the US Department of Commerce (DOC) for rebar imports from Turkey, the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB) chairman Namık Ekinci said that the purpose of the investigation was never to decide whether Turkish rebar imports to the US were dumped or subsidized, but rather the investigation aimed to hamper Turkish rebar imports to the country at any cost.

The CIB chairman went on to say that, ignoring all the valid reasons voiced by Turkish exporters, the US DOC proved that it has lost its impartiality, accepting the groundless allegations made by US producers. “It is with regret that we are obliged to state that the US Department of Commerce is now controlled by the US steel producers. We will take this case to the World Trade Organization panel,” he affirmed.

The US DOC announced antidumping duties of 5.29 percent for Habas, 7.07 percent for Icdas and 6.20 percent for all other Turkish steel producers, while countervailing duties for Habas and all other Turkish producers stand at 16.21 percent.
