Moldavian Metallurgical Plant (MMZ) has announced its preliminary production results for 2008.

Accordingly, in 2008 the mill produced 884,957 mt of crude steel and 816,582 mt of rolled steel products, registering a decrease of 8.3 percent and 10.2 percent respectively, compared to 2007. MMZ's deliveries during the period in question amounted to 849,017 mt of steel products - down 9.7 percent year on year.

As a result of the financial crisis and the sharp decrease in steel prices in the international markets, from the second half of December 2008 up to the present MMZ has been producing steel products strictly according to orders received.

During the first month of 2009, MMZ plans to produce about 35,600 mt of crude steel and 36,575 mt of rolled steel products.

On January 9, MMZ's reserves of metal charge amounted to 63,000 mt.
