Moldavian Metallurgical Plant (MMZ) has announced that in February this year it restarted production of steel billets, manufacturing a total of 37,567 mt.

In addition, in February MMZ increased its output of finished steel products to 28,633 mt, compared to only 6,419 mt produced in the previous month. Of its total volume in February of finished steel products, 9,559 mt were bars and 19,073 mt were rods.

MMZ's deliveries in the second month of 2010 increased by 129 percent month on month,  amounting to 25,481 mt, including 13,689 mt to non-CIS countries (54 percent of total shipments) and 11,792 mt to CIS countries (46 percent of total shipments).  The producer's deliveries of special grade steel products amounted to 3,397 mt during the month in question.

Meanwhile, during the first two months of 2010, MMZ produced 37,564 mt of steel billets and 35,052 mt of finished steel products, while its deliveries amounted to 36,601 mt, including 15,255 to CIS markets and 21,346 to non-CIS markets. Special grade steel shipments accounted for 5,557 mt of total shipments in the first two months of 2010.

In March, MMZ plans to produce about 35,000-40,000 mt of steel billets and 35,000-38,000 mt of finished steel products, of which 25,000-28,000 will be rods while the rest will be bars.

MMZ's pre-crisis monthly output stood at about 70,000-80,000 mt of steel and finished steel products.
