MMX suspends operations at Corumba iron ore mine

Brazilian iron ore mining company MMX is suspending iron ore production at its Corumba mine in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, according to media reports.

The miner will suspend operations at its Corumba mine starting from the current month for six months and workers will be let go. MMX has enough stocks to meet its contractual obligations despite the closing of the mine.

In 2012, MMX produced 7.4 million mt of iron ore, 1.4 million mt of which came from the Corumba iron ore mine.
