The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has installed more than 50 percent of the equipment for the first stage of its new cold rolling complex (mill 2000).

Accordingly, commissioning of the first stage of MMK's mill 2000, which includes the cold rolling mill and pickling line, is scheduled for Metallurgists' Day in Russia, which will be celebrated on July 17, 2011, while full-cycle production at the mill 2000 will be commissioned by mid-2012.

MMK's new mill 2000 will produce two million mt of finished steel products per year, including 700,000 mt of galvanized steel. The complex will use state-of-the-art technologies to produce high quality cold rolled and galvanized steel products for inner and outer car body parts as well as for use in white goods production and in the construction industry, and will allow MMK to benefit from the growing market for high-strength steel types.
