The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that in March 2009 its coating shop achieved a production record, with its polymer coating unit No. 1 producing 18,826 mt of finished products, exceeding by almost 2,000 mt its monthly production target of 17,000 mt.
Accordingly, of MMK's total finished production in March which consisted mostly of standard polyester coated galvanized steel, about 16,500 mt were delivered to domestic consumers, while more than 1,500 mt were shipped to other CIS countries.
For April 2009, MMK received 23,000-25,000 mt of orders for its polymer coating unit No. 1, with the average contract capacity of the unit being of 17,000-18,000 mt.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, in March MMK restarted the construction of its polymer coating line No. 2, which is scheduled to be commissioned on July 19 2009, which is Metallurgists' Day in Russia.
