Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it plans to implement 72 initiatives within its approved 2015 Environmental Program with a budget exceeding RUB 3.3 billion, covering all the mill's production plants and MMK Group entities.
Traditionally, the major projects are aimed at decreasing pollutant emissions. This includes renovation work on the sulphur collecting units at the sintering plant, renovating the coke gas chilling cycle at block No. 1 of the coke-chemical production facility, and initiatives focusing on electrical supervisor departments.
Expenditure on air protection measures will amount to over RUB 2.9 billion, while the expected decrease in pollutant emissions will be over 13,000 mt in 2015. Over RUB 400 million will be allocated under the Environmental Program to decrease water consumption and pollution discharge into water facilities.
