The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has signed a contract with SMG Demag for the supply of all necessary equipment for the construction of plate mill 5000 and a continuous slab casting mill. The new plate mill 5000, with a designed production capacity of 1.5 million mt per year, will allow MMK to produce 4,850 mm wide plates with strength of X100-X120, which are used in the oil and gas industry and also in the ship and machine building industries. The new mills are expected to be put in operation in 2009.
