The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the conclusion of a €142 million supply agreement with Czech company VITKOVICE HEAVY MACHINERY a.s. for the delivery of equipment for its new coke battery (No.11-bis).

The new battery with an annual production capacity of 1.14 million metric tons of coke with six percent humidity is expected to start production in three years' time.

According to the terms of agreement, VITKOVICE HEAVY MACHINERY will supply to MMK two production units, with an annual production capacity of 570,000 metric tons each, a coal bin, a quenching house and a number of coke machines. In addition, the battery will have a dust-free coke delivery system, which will enable MMK to reduce its emission levels.

The need for the new coke battery was prompted by MMK's plans to increase production capacity. Following the commissioning of coke production at the new battery, MMK expects its total coke production capacity to rise to levels sufficient for the production of 12 million metric tons of pig iron.
