Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has stated that it has received certification as a producer of flat rolled products of special grades used in shipbuilding by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. The new steel grades produced at MMK’s Mill 5000 will be used to build and fit out floating drilling vessels and marine stationary platforms, as well as seagoing vessels.

The launch of the new product will strengthen MMK’s position in the Russian market for shipbuilding steel, where it already has a market share of around 50 percent, and will help it to export high-quality rolled products to international shipbuilders.

The high quality of new grades of shipbuilding steel produced by MMK is regularly confirmed by international certification received from organisations such as Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas of France, the American Bureau of Shipping, Det Norske Veritas in Norway and Germanischer Lloyd.
