The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has released its production results for the first eight months of 2008.
Accordingly, during the given period, the mill recorded a five percent increase in its agglomerate production to 7.031 million mt but a 6.6 percent decrease in its iron ore production year on year to 939,700 mt.
During the first eight months, MMK saw a six percent increase in its coke production to 3.796 million mt, a 2.4 percent rise in its pig iron production to 6.525 million mt, a 4.2 percent increase in its crude steel production to 9.165 million mt and a 3.9 percent rise in its rolled steel output to 8.834 million mt year on year. During January-August MMK's commercial steel production increased by 3.7 percent, amounting to 8.366 million mt compared with the same period last year.
During the first eight months of 2008, the company continued to register a reduction in its percentage of exported steel production, down to 31.8 from 37.8 percent for the same period last year.
