MMK continues reconstruction of hot rolling mill 2500

Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) is continuing work to construct and commission three new furnaces to replace the six currently operating heating furnaces at its sheet rolling mill No. 4, part of its mill 2500. The company plans to complete installation works in autumn of the current year. It is scheduled to place two furnaces in operation by the end of 2011, while the third furnace will be commissioned in spring 2012.

The supplier of the equipment for the new heating furnaces is Italian company Tenova. The producer of in-line equipment for the hot rolling mill 2500 is Ukraine-based Novokramatorsk machinery plant. Czech company ALTA will also supply some of the equipment.

After the reconstruction of the mill 2500, its production capacity will be increased from 4.0 million mt to 5.5 million mt of products per year.
