Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has successfully completed construction of its new cold rolling plant for the production of high-strength steel for cars and car components. With the project, MMK aims at acceptance of its production by foreign carmakers in Russia, which is a part of its program for import substitution.

Since the project was launched in autumn 2013, overall shipments to international carmakers with production facilities in Russia have exceeded 32,000 mt. MMK has completed all stages to gain acceptance by carmakers - from steel sample approval to shipments of pilot and production batches. The company has mastered production of more than 50 steel grades meeting European standards. MMK’s capacity to make high-quality products for carmakers, including international companies with production facilities in Russia, has significantly expanded with commissioning of its new cold rolling complex.
