The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has successfully passed the recertification audit of its environmental management system (EMS) conducted by the international certifying body TUV NORD CERT GmbH.

The auditors stated that MMK's environmental management system meets the requirements of ISO 14001, and that, therefore, MMK will receive a new certificate of compliance for another three-year period.

According to environmental aspects identified within the EMS, reduction of air-polluting emissions is a key element of MMK's environmental activities. In 2009, gross emissions at MMK declined by 13.6 percent compared to 2004 when the EMS was first introduced.
