SeverCorr, a new steel company located just outside Columbus, Mississippi, is making a name for itself with the construction of a new steel plant. Construction work on SeverCorr's $880 million mill is expected to be completed by fall of 2007. SeverCorr's plant will cover a surface area of more than a million square feet. The company is now examining options for expanding the facility to possibly double the originally planned 1.5 million net tons per year of high-grade steel. The mill will consist of a state-of-the art melt shop, a thin slab caster, a six stand hot mill, and a cold mill and a hot-dip galvanizing line, producing hot rolled, hot rolled pickled & oiled, cold rolled, and hot dip galvanized steels for different industries. Work crews are currently installing furnaces and rolling equipment in the first mill to ensure opening in time for fall 2007.
