The raw material department of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) held a meeting with the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) on January 20, discussing issues such as oversupply, management, cooperation among upstream and downstream sectors in the steel industry chain, iron ore resources, and development of the steel industry.

Both parties reached a consensus on the promotion of mergers and reorganization in the domestic steel industry, while they agreed both sides should play a key role in analyzing the situation regarding steel industry development and should work to understand steel enterpises' demands. They also agreed that they should both cooperate with each other to compile a 13th Five Year Plan (2016-20) for the steel industry, and should research how to stimulate steel exports in line with China's "One belt, one road" strategy, involving the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century.
