Mexico’s domestic car sales grow in May while output and exports decline

Mexican domestic car sales continued to grow in May, increasing 19.2 percent year-on-year to 121,587 units, the nation’s automotive industry association, AMIA, said on Tuesday.

Despite the increase in domestic sales, both auto production and exports in May diminished 3.1 and 6 percent, year-on-year, to 279,508 and 226,240 units, respectively.

As for the accumulated period of January to May, Mexican vehicle output and exports diminished 4.6 percent and 7.1 percent, year-on-year, to 1.3 and 1.08 million units, respectively, while domestic sales in the same period rose 16.8 percent to 587,320 units.
