Mexico’s apparent steel consumption increased by 12.2 percent in 2014, to 26.6 million mt, according to data from the nation’s steel association, Canacero.

According to Canacero, local mills benefited less from the increased output compared to foreign companies that also operate in the country. Canacero also noted that local demand increased, but at a slower pace.

The nation’s liquid steel production increased 4.1 percent or 753,000 mt year on year to 18.9 million mt in 2014, Canacero said.
