Mexico’s car output decreases in March

Despite decreased production and diminished exports, Mexican sales of autos have seen an uptrend in 2016, according to data released by the nation’s automotive industry association, Amia, on Wednesday.

Domestic car sales in Mexico in March rose 11.4 percent, year-on-year, to 116,863 units. As for the three-month period, from January to March, domestic sales totaled 347,326 units, 13.4 percent up, year-on-year.

On the other hand, Mexican auto production in March declined 11 percent, year-on-year, to 266,960 units. Following the same downtrend, Mexican exports in the third month of the year diminished 14.2 percent, year-on-year, to 224,184 units.

As for the accumulated period of January to March, Mexican auto production fell 5.1 percent, year-on-year, to 805,736 units, while exports declined 4.6 percent, in the same period, to 657,098 units.
