A few days after announcing it would apply a 15 percent tariff for imports of slab, CRC, HRC, heavy plate and wire rod, the Mexican economy secretariat, SE, has officially set the final ruling over the imports of these products.
In a resolution published this week at the nation’s official gazette, Diario Oficial, the Mexican government said the measure will include about 97 items, instead of 89, as previously announced by SE at a steel event promoted by local steel chamber, Canacero.
The duties are now effective, as of October 8, 2015, and are valid for a period of six months. The tariff is valid not only for Chinese steel exporters, but also for imports of steel coming from other countries, which don’t have trade agreements with Mexico.
SE also notified local producers that current definite countervailing duties (CVD) on imports of seamless steel pipes from China and rolled steel plates from Russia are about to expire.
SE said CVD duties on seamless steel pipes will expire on February 25, 2016, while duties on imports of rolled steel plates will end on June 8, 2016. Local producers include AHMSA, Ternium, Deacero, and ArcelorMittal Mexico.
