Mexican steel imports from Asia rise sharply in 2014

Last year, Mexico’s steel imports from Japan, South Korea and China rose by 53.7, 14.3 and 101.1 percent, respectively, compared to 2013, according to a report this week from the National Chamber of Steel Industry (Canacero).

Overall, imports of steel products in Mexico increased 19.5 percent in 2014 to reach 12.39 million tons, compared to 10.37 million tons in 2013.

However, for the full year 2014, steel consumption in Mexico increased 12.2 percent compared to 2013, from 23.72 to 26.62 million tons.
