In March this year, domestic car sales in the Mexican auto industry rose 11.25 percent compared to the same month of 2011 and were up 11.9 percent on month-on-month basis, amounting to 83,574 units, according to the Mexican Association of the Automobile Industry (AMIA)
Meanwhile, according to the data released by the Mexican Association of Car Distributors (AMDA), Mexican car and commercial light vehicle production totaled 268,265 units in March this year, rising 9.4 percent year on year, while 88.3 percent of the total production was shipped to export markets. Mexico's light vehicle and car exports in March increased 16.4 percent year on year.
In the first quarter of this year, Mexican automobile production amounted to 447,883 units increasing 5.1 percent compared to the same quarter of last year, while its light vehicle production was 265,760 units, up 23.8 percent compared to the first quarter of 2011. Mexican car and light vehicle exports in the period in question increased 15.3 percent year on year, amounting to 604,212 units.
