According to the data issued by the Ukrainian iron ore and steel producer Metinvest Holding (Metinvest), in September this year its subsidiary Khartsyzsk Pipe Works (KhPW) saw its large diameter (LD) pipe output increase to 38,500 mt from 25,300 mt in August, registering a 52.2 percent growth month on month.
In the first nine months of this year, KhPW produced 182,600 mt of LD pipes - down 59.7 percent compared to the same period last year when the plant produced 452,600 mt of LD pipes.
Earlier, local media reported that KhPW has signed a contract to supply pipes for Russian state-owned oil transportation company Transneft for the construction of the second trunk line of the Baltic Pipeline System (BPS-2) oil pipeline. Details of the contract have not been disclosed; however, in August KhPW was able to increase its LD pipe output by 70.9 percent month on month to 25,300 mt and to raise its exports by 5.7 times to 31,200 mt. Thus, the contract in question has enabled KhPW to increase its output and to sell some stocks.
