Ukrainian mining and steel producing group Metinvest has announced that in the second quarter of the current year its crude steel production increased by eight percent to 2.970 million mt as compared to the first quarter of the year. In the first half of the current year, Metinvest produced 5.725 million mt of crude steel, down eight percent year on year.
In addition, in the second quarter Metinvest produced 2.124 million mt of finished steel products, up seven percent quarter on quarter, including 1.422 million mt of flat products and 578,000 mt of long products. In the first six months, the company's finished steel product output amounted to 4.112 million mt, decreasing by eight percent compared to the corresponding period of 2013.
In the second quarter, the raw coking coal production of Metinvest decreased by nine percent quarter on quarter to 1.128 million mt, while the company produced 9.191 million mt of iron ore concentrate, up four percent compared to the previous quarter. In the first six months of the year, the company's raw coking coal production and iron ore concentrate outputs reached 2.362 million mt and 18.011 million mt, down 21 percent and three percent respectively, both year on year.
