Russian metallurgical company Metalloinvest Holding has announced that the blast furnace No. 4 at its integrated iron and steel plant Ural Steel, which has a designed capacity of 1.5 million mt of pig iron per year, is now operating at full production capacity following large-scale maintenance works.

Metalloinvest stated that it invested more than RUB 1 billion in the project to increase productivity and the quality of the plant’s pig iron. The maintenance works at the blast furnace No. 4 are part of the program to modernize and develop Ural Steel’s production facilities. In addition, Metalloinvest has also commissioned the casting machine No. 5 at Ural Steel as part of the investment program. The launch of the blast furnace No. 4 and casting machine No. 5 will allow the company to react to market needs more flexibly, depending on current demand.

In 2015, Metalloinvest’s pig iron production reached 2.5 million mt, while its pig iron shipment amounted to 1.8 million mt.
