The Russian iron ore and steel producer Metalloinvest Holding (Metalloinvest) might be in process of bidding to acquire the Russia-based, world's largest palladium and nickel producer Norilsk Nickel.

Mr. Maxim Gubiev, CEO of Gazmetall, the parent company of Metalloinvest, has termed the possible merger of Norilsk Nickel and Metalloinvest as a very interesting move. However, Mr. Gubiev has not confirmed or refuted the media speculation on the issue.

On the other hand, Norilsk Nickel has announced that the company received a preliminary inquiry from an investment bank regarding the possible merger between the company and a third party. Norilsk Nickel is said to be investigating the substance of the inquiry. However, neither the name of the investment company nor the name of the third party in question has been disclosed.
