One of the leading Russian mining and steel companies, Mechel, has announced its production results for the first quarter of 2008.
Accordingly, during the given period the company saw a 25 percent increase in its coal production to 7.279 million mt (including a 94 percent increase in its coking coal production to 4.313 million mt), a seven percent increase in its nickel production to 4,400 mt, a six percent increase in its iron ore concentrate production to 1.163 million metric tons but a four percent decrease in its coke production to 917,000 mt.
In its steel segment, Mechel saw a four percent rise in its pig iron production, a five percent increase in its crude steel production and a seven percent rise in its finished steel products output (including a three percent increase in flats output, an eight percent increase in longs output, and a seven percent decrease in semis production) year on year in the first quarter of 2008. The respective figures in mt were 970,000, 1.563 million, and 1.366 million (including 115,000 of flats, 817,000 of longs and 434,000 of semis).
