One of the leading Russian mining and steel companies, Mechel, has announced its production results for the first nine months of 2007.
Accordingly, during the given period the company saw an eight percent increase in its coal production to 13.409 million mt, a 22 percent increase in its nickel production to 12,840 mt and a 77 percent increase in its coke production to 2.94 million mt, compared to the corresponding period of 2006. However, Mechel registered an eight percent decrease in its coking coal output to 6.354 million mt and a one percent decline in its iron ore concentrate production to 3.714 million mt.
In its steel segment, Mechel saw a six percent rise in its pig iron production, a three percent increase in its crude steel production and a 10 percent rise in its processed steel products output year on year in the first nine months of 2007. The respective figures in mt were 2.8 million, 4.56 million, 3.88 million. The above processed steel products output figure includes a five percent rise in flats output to 330,000, a 22 percent increase in longs output to 2.3 million mt, but a six percent decrease in semis production down to 1.27 million mt.
