One of the leading Russian mining and steel companies, Mechel, has announced its production results for the first half of 2007.
Accordingly, during the given period the company saw a 10 percent increase in its coal production to 8.87 million mt, a 20 percent increase in its nickel production to 8,400 mt and an 80 percent increase in its coke production to 1.94 million mt. However, Mechel registered a six percent decrease in its coking coal output to 4.22 million mt and a one percent decline in its iron ore concentrate production to 2.38 million mt.
In its steel segment, Mechel saw an eight percent rise in its pig iron production, a four percent increase in its crude steel production and an 11 percent rise in its finished steel products output (including a 17 percent rise in flats output, a 26 percent increase in longs output, but a 12 percent decrease in semis production) year on year in the first six months of 2007. The respective figures in mt were 1.9 million, 2.99 million, 2.53 million (including 226,000 of flats, 1.53 million of longs and 768,000 of semis).
