Mechel issues 2007 production results

One of the leading Russian mining and steel companies, Mechel, has announced its production results for 2007.

Accordingly, during the given period the company saw a 25 percent increase in its coal production to 21.195 million mt (including a seven percent increase in its coking coal production to 10.42 million mt), a 19 percent increase in its nickel production to 17,140 mt and a 51 percent increase in its coke production to 3.89 million mt. However, Mechel registered no year on year change in its iron ore concentrate output, producing 4.963 million mt.

In its steel segment, Mechel saw a one percent rise in its pig iron production, a two percent increase in its crude steel production and a nine percent rise in its finished steel products output (including a two percent drop in flats output, a 20 percent increase in longs output, and a five percent decrease in semis production) year on year in 2007. The respective figures in mt were 2.69 million, 6.09 million, 5.14 million (including 393,000 of flats, 3.04 million of longs and 1.7 million of semis).
