In July this year, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland increased 189 percent year on year and were up 71.9 percent month on month, totaling 280,224 metric tons, according to Port Hedland Port Authority.
According to the released information, manganese ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 214,224 metric tons in July, increasing by 121.2 percent year on year, and up 120.8 percent as compared to June. In July this year, manganese ore exports to China accounted for 76.45 percent of total manganese ore exports from Port Hedland, compared to 100 percent in July 2010.
The US was the second biggest export destination for manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland in July, with shipments totaling 66,000 metric tons. No manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland to the US had been recorded either in June this year or in July 2010.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
