According to preliminary data issued by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, in 2008 the Ukrainian steel producer Makeevsk Metallurgical Plant decreased its finished steel output by 12.2 percent to 876,000 metric tons, crude steel production by 28.8 percent to 1.254 million metric tons, and its pig iron production by 31.3 percent to 1.267 million metric tons, all compared to 2007.
In December, Makeevsk Metallurgical Plant upped its finished steel output by 64.3 percent to 46,000 mt, compared to 28,000 mt in November. However, in November and December the company did not produce any crude steel and pig iron, and did not make any scrap and iron ore purchases. On January 1, 2009, Makeevsk Metallurgical Plant's reserves of scrap amounted to 6,000 mt.
