Swedish-based iron ore producer LKAB has announced that Sweden's Land and Environment Court of Appeal has granted a permit for LKAB to mine in Mertainen, Svappavaara in Sweden.

The court has ruled that LKAB's application is in compliance with strict environmental requirements. The permit concerns mining and processing of 15 million mt of iron ore per year in Mertainen. The court has not issued an enforcement order, which means that LKAB must wait until the ruling gains legal force. Preparations for mine development and recruitment of the necessary mine personnel will begin after the permit gains legal force.
