Illinois steel plate distributor Leeco Steel announced plans to start shipping products from its new distribution center in South Dakota as of October.

The new 58,000-square-foot building has the capacity to warehouse over 20,000 tons of steel plates and has access to rail service. Leeco supplies carbon, HSLA, heat-treated and alloy steel plate.

“This facility in eastern South Dakota places our steel closer to where it needs to be and, therefore, eases the pressure on freight and allows us to get product to the end user faster,” president and CEO Denton Nordhues said in a statement. “We continually look for ways to best serve our customers, and establishing a stronger Midwest presence was the obvious decision to fulfill that mission.”
