Latin America's finished steel imports from China up 23% in Jan-Oct

Alacero, the Latin American steel association, has reported that Latin America received 10 percent of global exports of finished steel from China during the first nine months of 2013, reaching 3.9 million tons, 23 percent more than in the same period of 2012.
 
In the January-September period of the current year, the most important import markets of the region for finished steel from China were Brazil with 1 million mt (26 percent of Latin America's total), Chile with 543,223 mt (14 percent of the total), Peru  with 506,332 mt, and Central America with 501,134 mt, with the latter two each accounting for around 13 percent of the region's total imports of finished steel from China.
 
During the January-September period, the countries that increased their finished steel imports from China the most, compared to the same period of 2012, were Cuba (up 87 percent), Central America (up 84 percent), Paraguay (up 75 percent) and Brazil (up 57 percent).
