Latin America’s apparent finished steel demand

The International Iron and Steel Institute expects finished steel demand in Central and South America to rise 8.6% year on year to 36.2 million metric tons in 2005 and 7.6% to 38.9 million metric tons in 2006. Brazil's finished steel demand is projected to amount 20.2 million metric tons in 2005 and 22.1 million metric tons in 2006. These figures will show a year on year rise of 9.8% and 9.4% respectively. IISI also reports that finished steel demand in Mexico will rise 5.7% to 16.4 million metric tons in 2005 and 5.1% to 17.3 million metric tons in 2006.
