Kuzbasspazrezugol to invest in development in 2008

Kuzbasspazrezugol, the largest open-pit mining company in Russia, has announced its plans to invest Ruble 15.1 billion ($637.1 million) in coal capacity expansion projects in 2008.

In accordance with this investment project, in May 2008 the company is planning to commence production at its two enrichment units. Meanwhile, in August of the same year Kuzbasspazrezugol plans to start up its new Bachatskaya-Koksovaya coal enrichment plant with a designed production capacity of three million metric tons of coking coal.

In addition, Kuzbasspazrezugol plans to invest in the development of the local railway infrastructure and also in the replacement of the main mining equipment so as to increase its existing production capacity.

Kuzbasspazrezugol belong to Russia's Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UGMK). In 2007, Kuzbasspazreugol produced 46.34 million metric tons of coal, including 5.02 million metric tons of coking coal.
