Kunyu Steel’s blast furnace No. 2 starts production

On July 3, Beijing-based state-owned China Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC) announced that the 450 m³ blast furnace No. 2 of Xinjiang region-based Kunyu Iron and Steel Co. has commenced trial production, successfully producing its first pig iron.

The blast furnace No. 2 was constructed by MCC subsidiary 22nd China Metallurgical Construction Corporation (22MCC). The Kunyu Iron and Steel project located in the city of Kuitun in Xinjiang is being built on the back of investment by Shandong Shiheng Special Steel Group.

Upon completion, the overall Kunyu Iron and Steel project is expected to produce 1.5 million mt of pig iron, 1.5 million mt of crude steel and 1.5 million mt of finished steel per year.
