The first direct reduced iron (DRI) module of Iranian steelmaker Khorasan Steel will be inaugurated officially this coming Thursday (January 21) by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This first DRI module, which has an annual capacity of 800,000 metric tons, was commissioned in the last week of December 2009, as SteelOrbis previously reported.

The second DRI module, which is currently under construction and which will also have an annual capacity of 800,000 mt, will come on stream in the next few months.

While Khorasan Steel at present has an annual rolling capacity of 550,000 metric tons and a meltshop capacity of 630,000 metric tons per year, it has plans for the development of its existing meltshop as well as for the setting up of a new meltshop.
