The government of Kazakhstan has announced that it intends to extend its ban on the export of ferrous scrap to the end of the year, as reported by official media sources in the country.

"We have an understanding with metallurgists and scrap packers, and therefore the government took unprecedented measures to ban the export of scrap metal. And now the extension of this measure is in the plans until the end of the year," Albert Rau, vice minister of industry and new technologies, said.

The development of existing capacities in Kazakhstan in this area was the purpose of the first five-year plan, and it remains the goal in the second five years, the vice-minister said.

The said capacities can handle all the quality scrap in Kazakhstan, according to Rau.

A measure was previously passed by the Kazakh government banning the export of waste and scrap of ferrous metals from April 21 until to June 30.
