Kazakhstan issues Jan-May production data

According to the data released by the Republic of Kazakhstan's Agency of Statistics, in the first five months of 2009 the country registered a 19.3 percent decrease in its crude steel production and an 8.1 percent decrease in its production of flat rolled steel (including a 12.8 percent decline in tinplate and an 8.1 percent drop in galvanized steel), all compared to the data for January-May 2008. 

The respective figures in metric tons were 1.563 million and 1.234 million (including 65,767 for tinplate and 217,128 for galvanized steel).

During the first five months of 2009, Kazakhstan's output of ferroalloys went down by 30.6 percent year on year to 503,751 mt.
