On July 3, Sajjan Jindal-owned JSW Steel, one of India's largest steelmakers, announced its production results for Q1 FY 2009-10.
According to a statement filed to the National Stock Exchange, JSW Steel posted 1.4 million mt of crude steel production in Q1 FY 2009-10, up 45 percent year on year.
In the period in question, JSW registered a 47 percent increase in flats production and a 103 percent increase in longs production year on year, totaling 870,000 mt and 189,000 mt respectively.
"The impressive growth in crude steel and long products was mainly on account of production from the 2.8 million mt per year expansion project at the Vijayanagar works," JSW said.
"The company also showed a significant growth over the corresponding period in the previous year in flat products even after considering the lower production of hot rolled coils due to the shutdown of the hot strip mill at the Vijayanagar works for 17 days for modernization during June 2008," JSW added.
