Indian JSW Steel has announced the re-commissioning of one of the galvanizing lines at its Vijaynagar plant after undertaking a modification process to manufacture galvalume, a zinc-aluminum coated steel product commonly used in construction applications.

JSW Steel is the first Indian company to acquire a technology license for the production of galvalume sheets from US-based BIEC International Inc.

In a statement on the issue, JSW Steel said that galvalume sheets are the fastest-growing sheet steel product renowned for their excellent corrosion resistance and heat reflectivity and that the acquisition of the license in question will enable the company to have access to the latest product innovations.

JSW Steel's senior vice president for sales and marketing, Jayant Acharya, commented, "With the pre-engineered building industry coming up very fast in India, JSW Steel will benefit by its ability to cater to the growing demand of this product which is currently dependent on imports. The advantages of this product will take the construction standards in India to a much higher level."
