Jilin Province to eliminate 302,800 mt of dated steel capacity in 2012

According to the government of the Chinese province of Jilin, outdated annual steel production capacity totaling 302,800 mt is to be eliminated in the province in the current year. The capacity in question includes steelmaking furnaces at Siping Modern Iron and Steel Co. and Yanbian Shunda Machinery Casting Co.

Elimination of backward or outdated industrial production capacities in Jilin Province in 2011 did not include iron and steel production capacities. In 2011, total output of iron ore in the province amounted to 9.414 million mt, up 36.6 percent year on year, while outputs of crude steel and finished steel totaled 9.252 million mt and 10.69 million mt, up by 11.9 percent and 22.1 percent year on year, respectively.
