Jiangyin Steel enhances Indian operations

China's largest specialty steel producer, Jiangyin Xing Cheng Special Steel Works, took its operations in India to the next level by establishing a liaison office in the city of Pune. The company supplies approximately 3'000 tons of specialty steel per month to India's automobile industry. It is hoped that the liaison office will allow the steelmaker to better serve its Indian customers, which include Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland and Bharat Forge. Jiangyin Xing Cheng is mutually owned by Hong Kong based CITIC Pacific Ltd and Jiangyin Steel Works. The company exported 57% (180'000 tons) of its total specialty steel production in 2004. In related news, China's largest steelmaker, Baosteel, is also expected to set up a liaison office in India soon.
