According to the data released by the
Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in May increased by 7.3 percent on tonnage basis compared to April and were up 223.6 percent year on year to 17 ships, down from 22 ships recorded in April, totaling 1.47 million gross tons, consisting of nine bulk carriers. In May 2014,
Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 14 ships amounting to 454,140 gross tons.
In the first five months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 95 ships with an aggregate of 6.17 million gross tons, decreasing by 14.5 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in May
Japan delivered 19 ships for export, totaling 805,315 gross tons, decreasing from 20 ships totaling 702,381 gross tons recorded in April. In May 2014,
Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 20 ships with 801,431 gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first five months of the current year,
Japan delivered 136 ships for export, totaling 5.43 million gross tons, increasing by 17.3 percent year on year.
