According to the customs statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, Japan's steel exports in June this year amounted to 3.5 million metric tons, increasing by 5.8 percent month on month and decreasing by nine percent compared to the same month last year, while Japan's steel imports hit 736,026 metric tons, with a month-on-month decrease of 1.67 percent and a year-on-year increase of 4.8 percent.
Regarding Japan's major steel export markets, in June the country's steel exports to South Korea totaled 777,186 mt, down 7.26 percent; exports to China increased by 1.37 percent to 582,835 metric tons; the export volume to Taiwan amounted to 282,151 metric tons, up 4.2 percent; exports to Thailand totaled 366,063 metric tons, down by 5.4 percent; while exports to the US came to 181,799 metric tons, increasing by 27.4 percent, all compared to the previous month.
In June this year, Japan imported 232,469 metric tons of steel from South Korea, down 0.7 percent, it imported 112,529 metric tons from China, climbing by 46.5 percent, while imports from Taiwan came to 72,650 metric tons, decreasing by 1.9 percent, all compared to May.
