Japan’s steel exports post y-o-y decline

Data from the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation show that Japan's steel exports fell 11.6 percent year on year to 2.69 million metric tons in December 2005. For the full year of 2005, steel exports fell 7.6 percent from a year earlier to 32.6 million metric tons. Japan's steel exports to South Korea fell 24.1 percent year on year to 593,509 metric tons in December, while those to China decreased 24.2 percent to 421,792 metric tons. Furthermore, Japan's steel exports to Thailand fell 16.3 percent to 285,662 metric tons. On the other hand, Japan's steel exports to Taiwan rose 22.8 percent year on year to 312,727 metric tons in December. Exports to the US jumped 50.3 percent to 198,930 metric tons.
