Japan’s steel exports fall for 5th straight month

Data from the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation show that the country's steel exports fell 9.1% year on year to 2.71 million metric tons in April. Decreased demand from South Korea and China contributed to the decline in overall exports. Japan's steel exports to South Korea decreased 24.4% to 638'000 metric tons, while steel exports to China fell 17.6% to 490'000 metric tons. On the other hand, Japan's exports to Taiwan saw a robust rise of 49.7% to 356'000 metric tons. Furthermore, exports to the U.S. soared 22.9% to 122'000 metric tons, and exports to Thailand rose 9.3% to 334'000 metric tons.
